THzQCL-VECSEL is a Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser.  It is composed of a Quantum Cascade Laser (gain chip) an output coupler (OC) partially transmitting mirror: all housed within an ultra-low vibration cryocooler, EasyQCL-200. Tuning is affected by piezo movement of the OC. Milliwatt (>2 mW avg) power levels are possible with tuning ranges of >300 GHz with center frequencies of 2.7 and 4.7 THz. The cavity design of the VECSEL results in symmetric, near-Gaussian beams.
